Modesto, CA - Investigators from the Modesto Police Narcotics Enforcement Team (MNET), the Street Crimes Unit (SCU) and the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office STING Unit served two search warrants in the city of Modesto after a citizen’s complaint of drug activity.

On Friday, February 8, 2008, at 1:13 p.m. officers served a search warrant at 806 Sierra Drive and 2816 Sand Stone Street.  The search warrants came as a result of a citizen’s complaint of drug activity at the residence.  Investigators began the investigation with many days of surveillance.  During that time they observed drugs being sold from the Sierra residence.  They identified Everett Barns, 29 years old, of Modesto, as the responsible.  During the execution of the search warrant investigators found two handguns, ten $40.00 pieces of rock cocaine, scales, packaging materials, and $2000.00 in cash.

Prior to the service of the search warrant, uniformed patrol officers attempted to make a traffic stop on Barnes in the area of Briggsmore Avenue and Prescott Road.  They activated their emergency lights and sirens but Barnes failed to stop for the officers.  He drove through the Food Max parking lot.  As Barnes approached Evergreen Avenue he accelerated and turned north on Randazzo Avenue.  Barnes ran from the vehicle at the dead end of Randazzo Avenue and jumped a fence into a backyard.  Barnes tossed a stolen handgun and two magazines as he ran.  Barnes attempted to jump a second fence that backed up to Briggsmore Avenue and was taken into custody.

Barnes was booked into the Stanislaus County Jail for maintaining a drug house, possession for sales of drugs within 1000 feet of a school, possession of rock cocaine for sales, possession of a firearm in a vehicle, felon in possession of a firearm, possession of a firearm with narcotics, possession of stolen property, fleeing from an officer in a motor vehicle, resisting an officer, and driving on a suspended license.
