from:City Of Modesto category:Government and Politics posted:October 8th, 2008Modesto, CA β On Monday, October 6, at about 1:50 PM, officers were dispatched to Chrysler Park, 2700 Park Place, to investigate a shooting. Their initial investigation led to the arrest of two Modesto men initially believed to be associated with the shooting, but the 17-year-old shooter is still being sought. No one was injured during the shooting.
Police believe a fight between a 21-year-old man and a 17-year-old boy led to the afternoon shooting near Chrysler Park in northwest Modesto. The altercation began in the 2100 block of Christine Street and moved to Chrysler Park when a family member intervened. Arrangements were made to continue the fight at Chrysler Park and the two were driven to Chrysler Park in separate cars.
The 21-year-old Modesto man, accompanied by his uncle, drove to the park in a red pickup followed by the 17-year-old and at least one other male in a silver Chrysler 300. As they arrived at Chrysler Park, one of the vehicles made a u-turn causing the vehicles to cross paths on Park Place in front of the park. Investigators believe the 17-year-old suspect leaned out of the back seat window of the Chrysler 300 and fired two rounds at the red pickup as the two passed each other. The left front tire of the occupied truck was struck by one bullet during the shooting.
The initial investigation led to the arrest of two males believed to be associated with the silver Chrysler 300. Investigators continued to follow up on leads today and new information obtained during the subsequent investigation led to their release.
Investigators have identified the 17-year-old Modesto resident believed to be the person responsible for firing the handgun. At the time of this release investigators are continuing their search for this suspect.
