Modesto City Schools
About the School:
Modesto City Schools was established March 20, 1871 by the Stanislaus County Board of Supervisors. At that time, the District had an enrollment of 30 students.
The Modesto City Schools' Administration Office--located at 426 Locust Street--first served as an elementary school (see photo above). The building was constructed in 1923 at a cost of approximately $38,000. In 1952, it was converted into administrative offices.
The oldest high school in Stanislaus County--Modesto High School--was established in September 1883. Three years later, on May 27, 1886, 10 members of the first graduating class received their high school diplomas.
