The Newark Rotary Club was initially founded on May 8, 1961. It currently has 38 members consisting of individuals representing a wide range of professionals and businesses located in the Newark community. Like all Rotary Clubs, Newark’s consists of four main areas including: Club Service, Community Service, International Service and Vocational Service. Each year, the club elects a President who serves a one-year term from July 1 through June 30.
Members of Newark’s Rotary club contribute to the club through annual dues and fines levied throughout the year. Newark’s major fund raiser is it’s annual Crab and Pasta Feed held in November of each year. Last year, over 600 people enjoyed an evening of all-you-can-eat crab and pasta as well as raffle prizes and a live auction. Over $27,000 was raised for local charities.
Newark Rotary has a proud tradition of contributing to many local charities and organizations. In the last two years, the Newark Rotary Club has contributed to the following organizations: Save Our Seniors (SOS), TriCity Homeless Coalition, Viola Blythe Community Services Center, Newark Memorial High School, Friends of Ash Street Community Enrichment (FACE), Interact Scholarship, Newark Bobby Sox, Life Elder Care, Make a Wish Foundation, YMCA, Camp RYLA, and the Newark Betterment Corporation.
Newark Rotarians have given their personal time to local organizations and events such as LOV Newark Thanksgiving turkey carving, H.O.S.T.S. Tutoring, Gift Wrapping at the Viola Blythe Center, Newark Senior Center Events, Newark Days, Salvation Army bell ringing, Tri-City Homeless Coalition, and Junior Achievement.
Newark Rotary is also involved International humanitarian projects. The club has contributed over $30,000 towards the Polio Plus program aimed at the eradication of Polio around the world. It has also funded and participated in building numreous homes in Mexico for impoverished families through the Corazon organization.
