It was Bill and OJ's first time. Both enjoy the match and are looking forward to going again next month. The Steel Challenge event is held the first Saturday each month at Piru. It cost $25 to shoot the event. Expect to shoot about 250 rounds (bring a little more just in case). It takes about 3 hours to shoot all 8 stages. Everyone was very helpful and friendly. If you shoot center-fire it must be 9mm/.38 or larger and you must have a holster. If you shoot rim-fire you can shoot from the ready. Five magazines are advisable, but not required (it makes each stage go faster). Bring food, water, a hat, eyes & ear protection, a pencil and a calculator. Scoring is easy. Shoot five steel targets as fast as you can and finish on the last target called the "Stop" plate. Each stage allows you to throw away your high timed score. The shortest time wins.

Both of us had never shot this type of match before and we made a few mistakes and had a GREAT time. I captured a video of one of the eight stages called "Smoke & Hope". Overall Hank out scored me. Hank shot a 9mm Glock 17, and I shot a .40S&W Glock 35. We learned a lot on how to do better next time. The Steel Challenge event is held the first Saturday each month at Piru.
