It was announced this month by San Francisco Magazine that the San MateoCountyHistoryMuseum was voted the Best Family Outing for 2008.  “We are happy to be included with all of the businesses and parks around the San Francisco Bay Area.  What an honor!” said Carmen Blair, Deputy Director.  “We believe the historic courthouse is a gem as a museum.  We know we showcase an spectacular county treasure.”

As the article says, “Finally, a history lesson the whole family will enjoy.”  The HistoryMuseum is housed inside the restored 1910 Renaissance Revival marble courthouse with the stained-glass dome, “the building is a mind blower—no wonder it’s available for weddings—and the exhibits inside are fantastic, too.  Spotlights and voice-overs make  the ‘Living the California Dream’  show feel like a 3-D movie, and you’ll find enough interactive kiosks, video cameras, microphones, and learning–lab gadgets to keep a generation raised on video games alert and engrossed.”

The article disclosed the opening of the Maverick’s Big Wave exhibit that will launch December 14, 2008.  The exhibit will feature the Waverider, a multi sensory game interface, where “you can surf a virtual 40-foot wave, just like the ones the pros tackle” over in Half Moon Bay.  “For $4 a pop, you can’t ask for more!”
