Riverside County Regional Park and Open-Space District
The Riverside County Regional Park and Open-Space District was created by the electorate in November 1990 by a 64% vote and formed on January 29, 1991. The District is an independent agency governed by the Board of Supervisors, which sits as the District Board of Directors. The regular meeting of the Board of Directors is each Tuesday at 1:30 p.m.The Park District presently employs approximately 100 staff who bring to their jobs a high degree of dedication to the public and a wide variety of skills and abilities. The staff includes professionals in the fields of accounting and finance, biology, building and grounds maintenance, carpentry and construction, ecology, environmental restoration, historic preservation, interpretation, landscape architecture, museum and curatorial management, park planning, personnel administration, recreation, security, trails planning and construction, weddings and special events, wildlife habitat management, and a host of other disciplines.Administration: Park District administration is led by the General Manager, who directs all aspects of the organization. Three additional employees are responsible for personnel administration, office administration, employee training, and clerical support.
Operations: The Operations Division is led by the Assistant General Manager, Operations. The Division includes 51 employees who handle building and grounds maintenance, patrol, customer relations, campground reservations, weddings and other special events, park facility construction and inspection, lifeguard duties, and other tasks related to the operation and maintenance of Park District facilities. Natural and Cultural Resources: The Natural and Cultural Resources Division is directed by the Assistant General Manager, Natural and Cultural Resources. This Division includes 40 employees who maintain responsibility for a wide variety of Park District functions including: park planning and design; historic preservation and management of historic sites; museum operations and curation of artifacts; educational programs; management of archeological sites; capital improvement projects; grant preparation and administration; management, maintenance, and patrol of more than 30,000 acres of open space and wildlife habtat; Santa Ana River restoration activities; preparation of reports to the Board of Supervisors; special projects, and a number of other duties.Finance and Accounting: The Finance and Accounting section is led by the Administrative Manager. The six employees in this section are responsible for all Park District accounting functions, payroll processing, preparation and monitoring of Park District budgets, purchasing, computer systems, concession management, and other activities.The District administers and provides staff support to the District Advisory Commission (consolidated with Fish and Game Commission), Regional Trails Committee, and the Historical Commission. The Board of Supervisors appoints each member of these commissions or committees.
