The California Museum's Hall of Fame exhibit honors the 2007 inductees:
Ansel Adams, Milton Berle, Steve Jobs, Willie Mays, Robert Mondavi,
Rita Moreno, Jackie Robinson, Jonas Salk, M.D., John Steinbeck,
Elizabeth Taylor, Earl Warren, John Wayne and Tiger Woods. The
California Hall of Fame exhibit showcases each inductee's unique
contributions with hundreds of artifacts loaned from the inductees
themselves or their associations. Visitors can see Hollywood costumes
from Elizabeth Taylor, John Wayne, Milton Berle, and Rita Moreno;
sports memorabilia from Willie Mays, Jackie Robinson and Tiger Woods;
John Steinbeck's original manuscript for East of Eden; Earl Warren's
desk as governor of California; Jonas Salk's lab materials and personal
journals; and much more.
The California Hall of Fame exhibit includes a 40-foot
(wide) by 7 foot (high) stunningly designed exhibit, created by West
Office Exhibition Design of Oakland, California, that greets visitors
at the door in the Museum lobby with large scale portraits of the
inductees, photographs and their biographical information. The
exhibition continues on the second floor and showcases in greater
detail each inductee’s unique contribution.
Celebrating the 2007 California Hall of Fame inductees,
the exhibit highlights over a hundred artifacts - many of which have
never been displayed before. Some examples include:
- Original prints by Ansel Adams;
- One of Milton Berle’s costumes as well as a wind-up toy called Berle Crazy Car;
- Willie Mays signed baseball and bat;
- Rita Moreno’s dress from “West Side Story,” as well as her Oscar, Emmy, Tony and Grammy;
- Jonas Salk’s lab equipment including vials of the polio vaccine from 1954;
- John Steinbeck’s typewriter and original manuscript pages from “East of Eden;”
- Elizabeth Taylor’s costume from “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf” for which she won an Oscar;
- Earl Warren’s desk as governor of California;
- John Wayne film memorabilia, including his boots, hat and saddle;
- Tiger Woods’ golf clubs.
