2008 SOCA Home Tour
category:Arts and Entertainment posted:July 30th, 2008A variety of styles of houses will be on display in the historic Winn Park and Capitol Mansions neighborhoods. The
Sacramento Old City Association. Sacramento's historic preservation
organization, has developed a home tour that will appeal to many and
which includes not only landmark residences from the late 19:h and
early 20th centuries but also the historic Saint Francis of Assisi
Church. One of the new Sutter Brownstone units by Loftworks will also
be open (2605 N Street). The other houses selected for the tour are
located on 23rd, 25th, M. N. P. and Q Streets, and the entire tour
takes place between K. Q. 22nd. and 27th Streets. For digital images of

Always popular is the street fair that accompanies the SOCA Home Tour.
This year the fair will be on the lawn outside the Fremont Adult School
(24th and N Streets), where artisans will be showing their work
including stained glass, wood working, and energy conservation
techniques. There will be the opportunity to learn how to research the
history of ones own house. Tickets will be sold here on the day of the
tour.
Tickets valid for all of the sites on the tour will cost $20 on
September 21 but may be bought in advance for SIS at several Sacramento
businesses, including Joann's Elegant Gifts (1019 L Street). Collected
Works & Other Fine Gifts (4524 Freeport Boulevard). The Avid Reader
(1600 Broadway), and the 57rh Street Antique Mall (875 57th Street).
Bicyclists will get a dollar discount on their tickets on the day of
the tour ($19). Tour participants will be given a printed brochure with
a map of the route and illustrated histories of all of the sites.
Docents stationed at each of the houses will be able to offer
additional information.
The tour starts at 10:00 a.m. and finishes at 4:00 p.m. with the
exception of Saint. Francis of Assisi Church (26 and K Streets),
which will be open to the public only in the afternoon, from 2:00 to
5:00 p.m.
Members of the Sacramento Capitol A's Model A Club will display their restored antique cars throughout the tour area.
