Are you interested in California history? Are you looking for a fun and unique way to give something back to your community? Do you enjoy working with people of all ages? If your answer to these questions is “yes,” and you are at least 18 years of age, you are invited to apply for Volunteer Training at the Governor’s Mansion State Historic Park.

Volunteers are needed to tell the story of the elegant 1877 Victorian Mansion that for 64 years was home to 13 California governors and their families.  We welcome thousands of visitors from all over the world who come to experience this unique and engaging historic site. Behind-the-scenes opportunities for volunteers also exist—occasionally special projects that require clerical, carpentry, or curatorial skills, etc. are available.  Paid and volunteer staff members from the Governor’s Mansion State Historic Park will teach interpretive skills and techniques, and the history of the Governor’s Mansion and its residents.

The next Volunteer Training class is scheduled to begin in July for nine weeks, one day a week to be determined by the class. The deadline for applications is June 20, 2009.Advance interviews are required for all participants. For further details, or to request an application, please contact Kendra Dillard, Volunteer Coordinator, at (916) 323-2500 or via e-mail: kdillard@parks.ca.gov.
