Steampunk is a sub-genre of science fiction and alternate history that came into prominence during the late 1980’s and early 1990’s. Mainly focusing on the Victorian era or “Wild West,” works of Steampunk often feature anachronistic technology, or futuristic innovations as Victorians might have envisioned them. Steampunk is based on the Victorian perspective on automotive design, fashion, culture, architectural style, and art. Think H.G. Wells and Jules Verne and Mary Shelley.
