Epiphany Productions Sonic Dance Theater (San Francisco), Reckless Moments (Shanghai) and Honglan Studio (China) present Speaking Chinese World Premiere
Inspired by Love in a Fallen City, a 1943 novella by Chinese-American writer Zhang Ailing, Speaking Chinese was created during artistic residencies in Shanghai, Beijing, San Francisco and at UC Davis. Following the performances in San Francisco the piece will be presented in Shanghai’s historic Lyceum Theatre and then in Beijing and Chengdu.
Choreography/Direction: Kim Epifano, Composer: Zhu Jian’er, Dramaturgy: Barry Plews, Translations/Interpretations: Hu He, Dancers: Hou Honglan and C. Derrick Jones, Stage Designs: Shanghai Animation Film Studio, Costume Designs: Chu Hong Sheng and Zhu Jin You.
Speaking Chinese was created with the support of the National Endowment for the Arts, Phyllis C. Wattis Foundation, San Francisco Foundation, Grants for the Arts, San Francisco Arts Commission Individual Artist Commission, University of California Davis' Department of Theatre and Dance, Reckless Moments and private supporters.
