Mission :

The Whittier Public Library contributes to the fulfillment of the educational, cultural, and informational needs of its diverse community. It is dedicated to providing a variety of services and resources that reflect a broad range of ideas.

The Library provides materials of current interest, assists in finding information, and encourages the pursuit of knowledge. It also supports life long learning and the local educational system.

Vision :

Whittier Public Library will provide facilities for the 21st century where people of all ages and backgrounds will find a welcoming environment, outstanding collection, access to the latest technology, and services that are in keeping with the Library's tradition of excellence.

History :

Located in uptown Whittier, the Whittier Central Library is a full service library, providing patrons with a wide range of services and library materials.

The extensive library collection represents a broad range of ideas and viewpoints and contains over 250,000 items in a variety of formats including books, audio cassettes, videos and compact discs. In addition, the Whittier Central Library has public internet access, online databases, word processing computers, typewriters and microform readers.

The Whittier Central Library staff offer a variety of services in both adult and children's services. The Adult Services staff provide reference assistance on all subjects, including current sources of business information, consumer and employment information. The Children's Services staff provide reference assistance for children, as well as programs to promote literacy such as Preschool Story Time and Summer Reading Club.
