About Us
14th annual Durango Bluegrass Meltdown! For three days, the town of Durango will
be filled with bluegrass sounds. Old time, Celtic music, traditional and
progressive bluegrass will fill the theaters, hotel lobbies, bars and sidewalks.
The Main Stages of the festival will have a two time Grammy award winner with
Jim Lauderdale and three time International Bluegrass Music Award winners
Infamous Stringdusters. Chris Stuart and Backcountry will bring award winning
songs to the Meltdown - and Hurricane Creek, who couldn’t make the 2007 festival
due to powerful storms throughout the South, will be here to bring their driving
original music to your ears. Inside you'll find descriptions and schedules for
all of our main concerts as well as information on workshops, open jams, and
special events.
The Meltdown would like to thank our main sponsor again for 2008, Durango
Brewing Company. All of the festival’s sponsors are listed in the program –
please patronize them as well. The fun begins on Friday from 5:00 - 7:00 pm with
a long standing Meltdown tradition: the free to the public warm-up for the
Meltdown concert. Please note that this year the concert will be held at the
Elks Lodge at, 901 East 2nd Avenue. Start your weekend off with The Blue Canyon
Boys! Meltdown ticket holders may enjoy concerts Friday evening and into
Saturday and Sunday, with a special Gospel show on Sunday morning at the Durango
Arts Center.
A series of special events will be held all Saturday afternoon and evening at
the Durango Elks Lodge. Reasonably priced food, beverages and some of our
talented local and regional musicians can be enjoyed during The Band Showcase
from 12:00 - 5:00 pm and the popular Songwriters in the Round from 5:00 - 6:30.
Also the Old Time Barn Dance will be returning Saturday night at 7:00 pm with
Sweet Sunny South.
