17th Avenue Allstars To Perform At JUC Live!
from:Jefferson Unitarian Church category:Arts and Entertainment posted:October 1st, 2008From their earliest gigs standing by a jukebox at Acappella’s restaurant in
downtown Denver to becoming the winners of the national Harmony Sweepstakes, the
17th Avenue Allstars have been leaders in a cappella musical performance for two
decades.
The 17th Avenue Allstars span a wide variety of musical styles, from the ’50s to
Maroon 5, with selections from doo-wop, R&B and pop music. The group has sung at
the Aspen and Winter Park Jazz Festivals, the Town of Vail, and has twice been
named the official anthem singers for the Denver Broncos. They are a popular
opening band for many performers, including the Nylons, Dave Mason, the
Temptations and B.B. King. The Harmony Sweepstakes, the premier competition for
vocal harmony, refers to the group as the “bright stars of contemporary a
cappella.”
This is the second of five concerts in this year’s JUC Live! concert series. JUC
Live!, a not-for-profit performing arts series, showcases local and national
artists performing a diverse variety of musical genres including folk, jazz,
blues, world, pop and classical music.
