Old Spanish Trail Music Festival in Monte Vista

Seven local bands, musicians to play Chapman Park

Monte Vista
– The Old Spanish Trail Music Festival kicks off its second year in Monte Vista, with a collection of musicians spanning multiple music flavors from jazz to rock to Spanish and Americana. The festival celebrates the cultures of the people, past and present, living along the Old Spanish National Historic Trail.

Admission is free and events run from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. The event will be at Chapman Park, at Highway 160 and Chico Camino, across from the Alco/Jack’s Market shopping center in western Monte Vista. Several vendors will offer everything from handmade crafts to food, along with a beer garden.

Performers include:

- Cowboy singer/songwriter Fred Hargrove, Monte Vista
11 to 11:40 a.m.

- Just Magic, Del Norte
11:55 a.m. to 12:35 p.m.

- Dearly Beloved, Monte Vista
12:55 to 1:25 p.m.

- Pop/reggae/rock trio of Atomic Pork, Alamosa
1:10 to 1:40 p.m.

- Americana storyteller/musician Fritz Davis, Red River
2:30 to 3:30 p.m.

- Folk/jazz/pop artist Gabrielle Louise, Denver
3:55 to 5:10 p.m.

- Spanish/country/classic rock group Indian Nickel, Romeo
5:30 to 7 p.m.

The Rio Grande Scenic Railroad will offer trips for the festival between Alamosa and Monte Vista. The train will depart from Alamosa at 9:30 a.m. the day of the festival and return at 2:30 p.m., then has another trip departing at 4 p.m. and returning to Alamosa at 7:30 p.m. A free shuttle will transport riders to and from the park. Festival goers are encouraged to bring chairs for seating at the park.

The Old Spanish Trail Music Festival is presented by the Monte Arts Council (MAC), with major sponsors including: the City of Monte Vista, Budweiser, KRZA 88.7 FM, Alamosa Live Music Association (ALMA), and Xcel Energy.
