CancerCare Walk for Hope Sept. 7 in Fairfield
category:Sports and Recreation posted:August 17th, 2008 The Second Annual Walk for Hope of CancerCare of Connecticut is set for Sept. 7 (Sunday) at Jennings Beach in Fairfield as part of series sponsored by Novartis Oncology in Connecticut and New Jersey.
Lisa Cannella, regional director of CancerCare of Connecticut, said she is hopeful the reprise will exceed the results of last year when the 3 ½ mile walk raised $8,732 to support the work of the nonprofit resource for cancer patients and their families.
Walkers need a minimum of $25 in pledges to participate and they receive a Walk for Hope T-shirt. There is no minimum for children 12 years old or younger. Registration opens at 8:30 a.m. and the walk starts at 9 p.m. Light refreshments are available. The series of walks extends to the Mercer/Middlesex area Sept. 25, followed Sept. 28 by similar outings in the New Jersey communities of Bergen/Passaic, Monmouth/Ocean, Essex/Morris/Union, Sussex and a Walk for Mom Oct. 11 in Nomahegan Park in Cranford, NJ.
CancerCare of Connecticut provides no-cost professional-level services for those whose lives have been affected by cancer--counseling, group support, education and financial aid.
