from:Fairfield Arts Council category:Arts and Entertainment posted:October 7th, 2008Fairfield, CT---The Fairfield Arts Council (FAC) opens its newest exhibition, Linescapes: Drawings and Sculptures by Niki Ketchman with a reception that evening from 6:00pm-8:00pm. A brown bag lunch is planned for Thursday, December 4, 2008 from 12:30pm-1:30pm at Sanford Street Gallery where Niki Ketchman will discuss her work with Laura Einstein, Curator for Fairfield Arts Council Gallery. Ms. Ketchman’s work
Niki Ketchman’s drawings are created by doodling in a free, automatic way,
layering line on top of line on top of line. Niki states, “The images are
complete when they look very familiar, like something I have always seen. I
often create works that are transparent or shrouded and that only partially
reveal their core. I enjoy using wire because with it I can create sculptures
that look delicate and fragile even though they are tough. I think of my work as
an exploration into the vulnerability of human existence. My work explores the
difference between a person’s tough shell and his/her core, between order and
disorder, freedom and confinement and looseness and tightness.”
Laura Einstein comments, “Although Niki’s sculpture is largely planned for
outdoor spaces, they look exquisite against the pristine white walls of
Fairfield Arts Council. The included drawings are the seeds from which the
sculpture grows and develops. The two work together marking initial concepts to
completed works of art. To me, this is fascinating in that the viewer sees the
inside workings of this widely acclaimed and gifted artist. We are so pleased to
have Niki here at the Gallery.”
