Rosh Hashanah Begins September 29, Resident Learns to Blow the Shofar at The Jewish Home
from:Jewish Home for the Elderly category:Clubs and Organizations posted:September 26th, 2008Residents at The Jewish Home for the Elderly are preparing to welcome in the New Year of 5769 when Rosh Hashanah begins at sundown, Recently (9/8/08), as her husband David LeVine, Ellen Ashkins, Director of Resident Life, and Rabbi Joshua Zlochower look on, Rose LeVine learned to blow the Shofar, the ram's horn, which is part of Rosh Hashanah services around the world.
"Rosh Hashanah is a time for spiritual awakening," said Rabbi Joshua Zlochower, Director of Pastoral Services at The Jewish Home for the Elderly of Fairfield County. "The trumpet-like blasts of the Shofar inspire all who hear it to the calling of a New Year filled with promises, possibilities and potential. At The Jewish Home, residents and their families are encouraged to participate in our synagogue services and cultural traditions during the High Holy Days and throughout the year."
