The Greenwich Choral Society is a not-for-profit, member-based organization dedicated to excellence in choral music, primarily serving Fairfield and Westchester Counties.  The area’s premier chorus, exceeding 130 members, opens its 84th season with its traditional Christmas concerts at Christ Church in Greenwich, 254 East Putnam Avenue, Saturday, December 5 at 4 pm and Sunday, December 6 at 4 and 7 pm.  Led by Maestro Paul Mueller, Professor of Music at Hunter College in New York, in his 14th year, the Society will present “So Hallow’d Is the Time” by Stephen Paulus and traditional celebrations of the season.

“A George Gershwin Valentine”, a benefit concert with the New York All-Star “Big Band” and guest soloists, will bring “Summertime” to February at the Norwalk Concert Hall, 125 East Avenue in Norwalk on Sunday, February 14 at 4 pm.

“Music from a French Cathedral”, smaller works by Fauré, Vierne and others will be presented at Christ Church Greenwich on Sunday, March 7 at 4 pm.

Perhaps the greatest masterwork of choral music, Verdi’s Requiem, will close the season on Sunday, May 23 at 4 pm at the sumptuous Palace Theater in Stamford. The Hunter College Chorus will join the GCS in this Verdi masterpiece.

Tickets are available for season subscriptions and for individual concerts. Discounts are available for groups and students.  Children 12 and under come free with an accompanying adult.  Contact the Greenwich Choral Society office at (203) 622-5136 or by email at greenwich.choral@verizon.net for complete information. Online ticket buying is available on our website at www.greenwichchoralsociety.org.

As the area’s premiere choral group, Greenwich Choral Society is always seeking new choristers for all voice parts.  Auditions take place at the First Congregational Church in Old Greenwich in September and January and can be scheduled by contacting the Registrar, Karen Juul, at kdjuul@yahoo.com or (203) 348-3729.

Each year the Greenwich Choral Society awards two Nathalie Rutherford Scholarship of $1,000 each to seniors attending school in Fairfield or Westchester County who intend to pursue further study in vocal or choral music.  Applications and audition tapes should be submitted in April.  For full information, please call the Greenwich Choral Society office at 203-622-5136, or email greenwich.choral@verizon.net.

As part of its outreach program the Society takes choral music to the schools. Members of GCS visit elementary and middle schools in Greenwich, tying performances and explanations to school curricula and classroom programs.
