Tom Fruin uses detritus from the streets and parks of New York City to make provocative art from forgotten objects. Fruin is both collector and storyteller; the neighborhoods that discarded his materials speak through his creations.
Wandering through the back alleys and parks studying the refuse of New York, I find signifying detritus that I reinterpret and re-present in a way that communicates both my investigation and the cultural weight imbued in these forgotten items. Often these changes are transformative while other times, I merely present my findings to heighten the value I have discovered.
