CT Legislature Honors Student for Charity Initiative

Ishaan Patel of Southington, 13-year-old founder and CEO of the new non-profit educational charity Planting Pencils will be honored at the Republic Day celebration being held by the Connecticut State General Assembly on February 5th at 6 pm.

Republic Day commemorates the Declaration of Indian Independence by the Indian National Congress to become a democratic government system.

The public ceremony will be held at the Legislative Office Building at 300 Capitol Avenue in Hartford.

Patel, whose parents emigrated from India, believes that one pencil, one book, one child at a time, can create a better world for all of us. Planting Pencils is a grass roots effort to raise money and collect school supplies for underserved and underfunded schools in our state, the nation and the world. Less than 2% of humanitarian aid goes towards education and 57 million children around the globe do not have access to a school.

Planting Pencils is a nonprofit educational organization dedicated to raising awareness and collecting school supplies to improve access to education in underserved parts of the world. Formed in 2015 by a socially conscious 13-year-old boy, the goal of the charity is to use the seed of education to grow empowered children.
