Connecticut Tennis Center at Yale University

The 15,000 spectator, state-of-the-art, Class I Competition Tennis Stadium includes locker room facilities, a player lounge, boxes, sky suites and dining area, a media center, fitness center and offices for Volvo International's on-site tournament staff. The surrounding area is the setting for a smaller Grandstand Court, sponsor entertainment, concession stands, walkways and picnic areas.

The stadium is the result of a unique and unprecedented partnership between government, the private sector and Yale University, one of the most renowned private universities in the world.

Lighting challenges included illumination of the entire surface of the stadium court to satisfy the requirements for television, night time usage considerations and critical viewing of the entire fast moving tennis ball. Since the television cameras are aimed below perpendicular, the design involved rotating the vertical plane to a 15-degree tilt in order to correspond to the angle of the television cameras.
