New Haven Theater Company

New Haven Theater Company is a revolutionary collective bringing the power and excitement of living performance to the New Haven community. NHTC comprises several initiatives different in form—comedy, experimental and site-specific theater, spoken word—but alike in function: the company seeks to reinvigorate and redefine theater for audiences neglected or alienated by the traditional theater establishment.

The time for major change in the American Theater is now. Competition for the attention of the audience -- especially with the explosion of digital entertainment options -- is greater than it has ever been. No longer can we hold onto traditional methods that have created an expensive and marginalized form of entertainment for a shrinking audience base. No longer can we support practices that have helped label the American Theater as elitist, politically narrow-minded, and archaic.

Theater is both entertainment and art, both a very personal experience and a community event. Theater has the potential to touch the audience in ways that no other form of entertainment or art can. It is time to rediscover that potential, and time to break down the walls -- institutions and practices -- that have held it back.
