The Newtown Cultural Arts Commission was created by a town ordinance to stimulate, facilitate, coordinate and cooperate with existing artists and arts organizations in order to further the development of the cultural arts in Newtown. The Commission began its work in June of 2007 and meets monthly. The Commission recently launched a website which will showcase the arts and artists in Newtown. In the months to follow, Newtown residents and cultural organizations should expect a greater presence of the Commission, as its preparatory work comes into fruition and its endeavors to celebrate the value of art in society, capitalize on the positive economic impact of the arts, and promote the work of the many gifted artists who reside in Newtown, begins to blossom.
The current Newtown Cultural Arts Commission comprises the following Newtown residents: Commission Chairperson Jennifer Johnston, Vice-Chairperson Marina Moscovici, Recording Secretary Donna Mangiafico, Debbie Aurelia, Martin Blanco, Joseph Grasso, Robert Kaiser and Linda Watson and auxiliary member Jennifer Rogers. Anyone interested in joining the Auxiliary Board should contact the First Selectman’s Office in Town Hall at 270-4201.
