Pulitzer prize-winning playwright Donald Margulies of New Haven will receive the Connecticut Press Club’s Mark Twain Award for Distinguished Author at the Connecticut Press Club’s annual awards banquet. Norwalk-based writers and teams of TV staffers from News 12 will be honored for winning 14 awards in the organization’s annual competition. Barbara Smith won first prize for her humor column and for her play, “Butterscotch.” Children's books author Allia Zobel Nolan won first prize for "Bunnies Are For Kissing," second prize for "Noah's Notebook" and honorable mention for "Mrs. McGee's Coconut." Rosann Levy won third place for her autobiography, "It's Never Too Late to Dance." Wendy Logan won third prize for her personality feature, "Rising Star." News 12, based in Norwalk, won seven prizes for on-the-scene reporting, investigative reporting, prepared sports, features and special reporting. All entries were judged by members of the Delaware Press Association.
Two Margulies plays, "Time Stands Still" and "Collected Stories," have opened on Broadway this year, and "Dinner With Friends," the 2000 winner of the Pulitzer prize for drama, will be performed at the Westport County Playhouse June 1 to 19. Trumbull entertainer Randye Kaye will be the M.C. and director David Rogers of Westport will direct a scene from a Margulies play with Stratford actress Nadine Willig. The awards event, which is open to the public, will take place on Thursday, May 6 from 6:00 p.m. at Quattro Pazzi at Oak Hills Park, 165 Fillow Street, Norwalk.
