Going green: New group promotes good foods and more

A new organization in town is trying build a sense of community through “fun projects to promote a more sustainable Ridgefield and to harness the like-minded efforts of other Ridgefielders,” reports Claire Carlson, who heads Ridgefield Green Village Initiative. Mrs. Carlson was first inspired to lead the initiative after joining the Ridgefield Action Committee for the Environment, RACE. There, Mrs. Carlson led community outreach efforts. As part of this role, she would travel to neighboring towns to learn about their environmental successes and failures. The first town she visited was Westport. “They were very proactively green,” Mrs. Carlson said of the Westport Green Village Initiative. “There was a generous spirit and energy.” At a meeting she attended, members were encouraging and eager to share their ideas.
