Continuing its efforts to provide relief for people living in the earthquake-stricken region of China’s Sichuan Province, AmeriCares is constructing and equipping a second field hospital this week. This new donation follows the recent opening of a 16-bed field hospital in Qingchuan, which was delivered by AmeriCares in mid-June. The semi-permanent facility, staffed by local Chinese doctors, is now treating patients in the area.

AmeriCares Reaches Out Again to Myanmar
AmeriCares is preparing to send a second major shipment of medicines and medical supplies to Myanmar this week, as part of a sustained effort in the aftermath of Cyclone Nargis. The 7,000-pound shipment contains antibiotics, analgesics, IV fluids, pain relievers and other essential medicines and supplies valued at $825,000.

AmeriCares Boosts Children’s Health with Vaccination Support in New Orleans
When the New Orleans school system re-opened its doors after Hurricane Katrina a few years ago, nearly all the health records for returning children had been lost or destroyed. It was not possible to determine how many children were appropriately immunized. With the support of AmeriCares, the Children’s Hospital of New Orleans implemented the School Kids Immunization Program (SKIP). Today, the vaccination rate for students in New Orleans exceeds the national average.
