Magic Of Mancini - Concert

Stamford Symphony will bring the "Magic of Mancini" to music lovers at Columbus Park this summer. Pops in the Park on the Heineken Stage, a FREE series presented by Seaboard Properties and HSBC, and produced by Stamford Downtown Special Services District and the City of Stamford, will open with a Stamford Symphony concert on Wednesday, July 8 at 6:30 pm. Maestro Eckart Preu leads the orchestra and guest vocalist Lynn DiMenna in a program filled with love songs and movie magic. Families can bring a picnic or dine al fresco at a park-side restaurant. "Everyone loves movie music,” said SSO Music Director Eckart Preu. "And no one wrote movie music better than Henry Mancini. Whether it’s the bouncing theme to ‘The Pink Panther’ or the wistful ‘Moon River’ you can’t help but smile when you hear his music." Whimsical pieces by Leroy Anderson and love songs from Cole Porter will also delight the audience. Stamford Downtown Special Services President Sandra Goldstein commented, "We want Stamford families to enjoy top quality entertainment FREE of charge. Pops in the Park was designed with families in mind. It’s the perfect environment to spend time outdoors with your kids or for older couples to relax under the stars."
