DANIELSON, CT –Quinebaug Valley Community College’s effort to bring students together from different disciplines has resulted in the publication of “Hybrid”. “Hybrid” is a compilation of art, fiction and poetry.

”Hybrid” is a collaborative project between two classes, Assistant Professor & Art Program Coordinator, Marc Szantyr’s Art 167: Printmaking I, and Instructor of English, O. Brian Kaufman’s English 283: Creative Writing/Fiction. Szantyr’s students were engaged in making ink prints from linoleum cuts. Kaufman’s students were composing fictional narratives, mostly short stories, some of which are classical of mythical tales, and some of which are experimental in nature. The journal is a collection of the best work that came out of both classes.

Copies were sold at the spring semester student art show opening reception on May 7, 2008.  Copies are available for purchase for $5.00 by contacting Kaufman.  Proceeds will go towards the next edition of the journal.

In addition, “Hybrid” published the Julius Sokenu Poetry Prize winning poem for 2008, “Connecticut to Colorado” by John Deary, Pomfret, CT.

The journal is supported collectively by different groups in the college. It was funded by the English faculty, Center for Teaching, Learning and Student Development, the QVCC Library, and QVCC Student Government Association. It was also generously printed at cost by Regine Printing of Providence Co. of Providence, Rhode Island.

For additional information, contact Brian Kaufman at 412-7235 or okaufman@qvcc.commnet.edu.
