The California Heritage Museum is pleased to present “Arte Chicano Hecho En Los Angeles – 1970 to the Present”.  The Opening Reception at the Museum is schedulled to be held on Saturday afternoon, February 24th, 2024 at 3:00 until 5:30 p.m. and is open to the general public.  The Reception is hosted by the Victorian, a very recently renovated restaurant and bar located adjacent to the Museum. It should be noted, that numerous shops, restaurants and bars line the streets of picturesque Main Street for guests to visit after the Opening Reception.

“Arte Chicano Hecho En Los Angeles” is a retrospective look at the beginning of Chicano artwork in L. A. County, its artists and growth over the past five decades.

The exhibition will be “Guest Curated” by Santa Monica resident Pablo De La Rosa.
Mr. De La Rosa was born in Boyle Heights, moved to San Diego, California in the early 1970’s and worked with the Centro Cultural Center situated in Balboa Park and collaborated with staff to open the first chicano art gallery at Barrio Logan Heights.  As Director of the gallery and with the help of several local artists they began “Congresso de Artistas Chicanos en Aztlan” establishing an outlet for Chicano Artists to exhibit their work.

Pablo is a historian, an avid collector of Chicano Art, and past Board Chairman of the California Heritage Museum, as well as existing Advisory Board member of the Boys & Girls Club of Santa Monica (26 years).  An active supporter of local community organizations and an advocate of youth sports in Santa Monica, Pablo is also Past President of Santa Monica United Soccer Club, the oldest youth club on the Westside.

Presently, Mr. De la Rosa is CEO of DLR Electric, Inc. that has served the Santa Monica Bay community for over 40 years.  Pablo is a perfect choice to contribute his expertise to all aspects of the history of the Chicano Art Movement!
