Minneapolis-based South Indian Dance company Ragamala Dance is led by the mother and daughters choreographic partnership of Ranee, Aparna, and Ashwini Ramaswamy. Rooted in the dance form of Bharatanatyam, Ragamala’s expansive work centers around the kindred relationship between the ancient and contemporary. Through multi-disciplinary dance works, engaging the community, and educating the next generation, Ragamala epitomizes intercultural and immigrant narratives that evoke a shared sense of humanity. For the Ragamala company, family is an artistic incubator through which they craft multidisciplinary, intercultural dance landscapes.
Avimukta: Where the Seeker Meets the Sacred is an intimate ritual for the stage in which the dancers are seekers, engrossed in rituals of sacred contemplation that become an ecstatic prayer celebrating the inevitable dissolution of life. The performance features mother/daughter creators and performers Ranee, Aparna, and Ashwini Ramaswamy.
