Francesca Anderson Fine Art, Portraits North 56 Adams Street, Lexington is showing The Boston Printmakers, New England Edition up through June 2.

This is the gallery’s 7th Print Show in 34 years.  This time Francesca wanted to exhibit members of The Boston Printmakers, one of the best print groups in the area and she sent a Call to Artists to BP.

35 artists applied and 20 were accepted for the show.  Most prints are realistic – landscapes of NH, landscapes of Asia, Venice, Newport RI gardens, prints of animals and flowers, still lifes etc.. There are approximately 120 prints on both floors of the gallery, large and small ranging in price from $ 180. to $ 2,000.

A pleasant co-incidence runs throughout the exhibit of a “woman’s theme”. Well known printmaker from Westport, CT, Ann Chernow submitted her 1950’s images of Humphrey Bogart & Barbara Stanwyck, with Stanwyck being the dominant figure.  Linda Behar from Providence, RI has large almost life size images of an outline of a naked woman standing in front of what she depicts as an altar, as in her “Woman with Blue Halo.” June August from North Hampton, NH has large colorful images of women, especially in her “Oval Office Justice Red”.

Landscapes of New Hampshire abound, specifically by popular printmakers Matt Brown, Leo Donahue and William Hays all of NH.

Sat. May 12, 2pm – 4pm Kate Hanlon of Georgetown, MA will be giving a demonstration of her white line woodcut process. Multicolored images may be made from a single block of wood with a few simple tools without the need for a press. Audience members will be able to participate if they would like.  Beer, refreshments and light food will be offered.
