Burbage Theatre Co presents the world premiere of “Witching Hour Social Club”, a new horror anthology for the stage by longtime Burbage collaborator James Lucey, directed by Allison Crews. This chilling theatrical experience runs for 12 performances only, from October 16 through November 2, 2025, at Burbage Theatre Co’s Wendy Overly Studio Theatre in Pawtucket, RI.

“Witching Hour Social Club” follows two estranged friends who reunite in the woods for the first meeting of their high school storytelling club in fifteen years. When no one else shows up, they pass the time by listening to old cassette recordings of their teenage horror tales. But what begins as a nostalgic evening turns unnerving when it becomes clear that something strange—and dangerous—has been recorded on the tapes. What starts as memory turns to menace in this theatrical love letter to classic horror storytelling.

Lucey’s play is inspired by classic horror anthologies like “Creepshow”, “Tales from the Crypt”, and “Are You Afraid of the Dark?” and has been developed as an experiment in bringing horror to the stage. After a successful staged reading in 2024 and a limited Halloween workshop production, “Witching Hour Social Club” now returns as a fully realized production in Burbage’s 14th season.

Directed by Burbage Executive Director Allison Crews (known for “Collective Rage”, “Witch”, and “Five Women Wearing the Same Dress”), the show features a large ensemble cast of local talent and brand-new material added for this premiere. With atmospheric design, inventive staging, and unexpected emotional resonance, the show aims to surprise, entertain, and unsettle audiences in equal measure.
