Brevard County Fire Rescue Media Release - Malabar Fire Update
from:City Of Melbourne category:Government and Politics posted:May 13th, 2008Brevard County, FL--Brush fires continue to pose a threat to homes in the area of Rocky Point Road, Malabar. The fire has jumped US1 and continues to move east prompting the closure of US1 at Rocky Point Road to Valkeria Road.
In addition, other areas being threatened by brush fires (in the Malabar/Valkeria area) are Gradick Dr., Henderson Dr., Greenbrooke St., and areas between Valley Rd and Valkeria Rd. These fire have consumed approximately 2300 acres and is still growing.
There are over 100 firefighters on the ground and air support is also being provided. No injuries have been reported.
In addition, Brevard County Fire Rescue has activated the "Brush Fire (PIO) Hot Line.". The number is 637-5550. Information will be provided to citizens pertaining to local brush fire activity, evacuations, and any additional information pertaining to brush fires.
