from:City Of Melbourne category:Government and Politics posted:May 6th, 2008“Senator Posey, Representative Mayfield, Representative Needelman, Representative Poppell, Representative Altman, and Representative Sasso each understand and appreciate the Space program’s contribution to our economy,” said Brevard Legislative Delegation Chairman Senator Mike Haridopolos. “We are working together during this difficult transitional period to make sure space industry jobs stay here in Florida.”
The Brevard County Legislative Delegation is proud to announce today that the 2008-09 proposed legislative budget includes:
$14.5 million for space and aerospace infrastructure,
$1.25 million for retention and training of Brevard’s aerospace workforce, and
$500,000 – Sub-Orbital Commercial Research and Training Center at Florida Institute of Technology.
The infrastructure funding will be used to make improvements at one of the Cape Canaveral launch complexes in order to attract new space vehicle testing and launch business to the state. The workforce funding will provide services focused on the retention and retraining of skilled talent in the space industry.
The budget allocation is part of the delegation’s effort to support Brevard’s Space Industry and to retain high wage aerospace jobs as the Space Shuttle is scheduled to be retired in 2010.
