About The Musem

The Miami Museum of Science and Planetarium has been serving the community for over 53 years. Located on three acres of what was once part of the historic Vizcaya Estate, the Museum has built a reputation by responding to emerging needs in science education, growing to serve local, national and international communities.

The Museum is a private non-profit 501(c) 3 organization with an independent Board of Trustees. Currently it serves over 250,000 annual program participants, making it the highest attended museum in Miami-Dade County and the largest informal educational facility in the South Florida region. The Planetarium and Weintraub Observatory alone have welcomed an estimated nine to ten million people since opening in 1967. With its long history, widespread support within the community and substantial use by individuals and members as well as by groups, the Museum has now outgrown its current home and seeks to move to a new location at Bicentennial Park.

The new Museum will be a key component of downtown Miami’s revitalization program, bringing local and international visitors, creating jobs, improving workforce preparation, increasing investments, as well as improving the quality of life for residents. Join us to make this ambition become a reality: the new Museum begins now, with experimentation of new products, exhibitions and services. Help us prepare the future and inspire a new generation.
