Brevard County Begins Fire/EMS Dispatch For City Of Palm Bay

from:City Of Palm Bay category:Government and Politics posted:September 6th, 2010
Brevard County, FL - Brevard County Fire Rescue is set to begin fire/EMS dispatch for the City of Palm Bay beginning Tuesday, September 7th.  The service change is part of collaboration between Brevard County and the City of Palm Bay aimed at providing enhanced fire and emergency medical dispatch to residents within the Palm Bay city limits.

Dispatchers for the county are trained Emergency Medical Dispatchers.  To achieve this distinction, employees receive training in how to handle a variety of medical scenarios including chest pain, seizures, and trauma calls over the phone.  They can also provide CPR instruction and help deliver babies while emergency crews are en route to the scene.  Dispatchers are required to attend classes every two years to renew their certification.

In addition to Palm Bay, Brevard County currently provides dispatch services for Rockledge, Cape Canaveral, and Melbourne Beach.
