Reverend Bernard Quinn of the Glenmary Home Missioners was appointed administrator. The new parish quickly established a building fund. Through the efforts and generosity of the founding parishioners, and the generosity of local businesses, such as the Habersham Mills Foundation, groundbreaking for a new church was June 30, 1967. Within only seven years of the celebration of the first Mass in Clarkesville, St. Mark Parish had a permanent home.

Reverend Mert McMahon celebrated the first Mass in the new church on February 4, 1968. In November, Archbishop Thomas A. Donnellan celebrated the official dedication of St. Mark Catholic Church. Glenmary Mission priests served St. Mark from the time of the Church’s dedication until 1992 when St. Mark became an Archdiocesan parish
