Lovejoy Branch Library
On November 20, 2003 the Clayton County Library held a Groundbreaking Ceremony for the new Lovejoy library. This marks the first time since 1975, when the Morrow Library was opened, that Clayton County has built a library in an area that had no current library facility. The Lovejoy library was designed by Leo A. Daly Architects and the General Contractor was Rick's Contractors. The project began in 2001 with an application for state funds. In 2002, the State General Assembly appropriated $1,444,000 and Clayton County provided $732,400 and the site. State Senator Terrell Starr, with the support of State Representatives Gail Buckner, Mike Barnes, Darryl Jordon, Valencia Seay, and Ron Dodson led the considerable efforts to secure state funds. The library's cost was $2,176,400 which included design, construction, furnishings, and equipment.
The Library doors opened to the public on January 10, 2005. The 12,000 square foot Lovejoy library has shelving capacity for 60,000 books, seating for 106, 18 public computers with Internet access, Microsoft Office, wireless internet, and a 38-seat meeting room. A special feature of the library is a gas log fireplaces set in the glass wall of the adult reading area. The library is located on McDonough Rd. at the western end of the Loop Road through the Lovejoy Regional Park (soccer and softball complex) and very close to the Lovejoy High School.
