Ga. could end free Wednesday admission to parks

category:Clubs and Organizations website:More Info posted:September 6th, 2010
ATHENS, Ga. (AP) — Budget trouble could mean the end of free Wednesday admission to Georgia's state parks. The perk allows visitors to skip the $5 admission fee, which costs the Department of Natural Resources about $400,00 annually. The department has proposed ending the free admission program as lawmakers push the state park system to become more financially independent amid an ongoing budget crisis. The public has a chance to comment on the proposed change until Oct. 22. Afterward, state officials will make a decision on whether to start charging park users on Wednesdays. ___ Information from: Athens Banner-Herald, http://www.onlineathens.com
