World's Most Valuable Brand: United Way sole non-profit to make cut
The United Way is the only nonprofit that makes Forbes' World's Most Valuable Brands top 50 list, coming in at No. 26 with a brand value of $14.3 billion. The United Way was founded in 1887 and is made up of 1,800 local United Way chapters in 45 countries and territories. The economic downturn affected the charity as it did most other nonprofits, and donations fell 9% between 2006 and 2008. Yet with $4 billion in annual donations, the United Way is twice the size of the next biggest charity, the Salvation Army (Source Forbes Magazine).

Community Investment Allocation Panels Are Off and Running!
With the help of 50+ volunteers, United Way of the Coastal Empire begins its annual review of program funding applications this September. Volunteers from across the community give generously of their time and skills throughout the fall to assist United Way in strategically investing in human service programs that provide the greatest impact and best return on investment of The Community Fund. Allocations Panel Volunteers, as they are known, evaluate programs and provide funding recommendations that are reviewed and voted on by the United Way Board of Directors. The process last throughout the fall months, with final funding decisions delivered in early 2011.
