I was four years old at the time (almost five), and my aunt would take us down to the station almost every day to see Amtrak. On a couple days, grandpa came down with his video camera and filmed the train coming in. You can hear me in the background in a couple places. Since I now live near Ottumwa and have had the privilege to videotape Amtrak here countless times since 2002, this footage is very priceless today! Old F40's and Phase III and IV Superliners can all be seen in this video. Just LISTEN to that horn on the lead F40! Stunning!! Back then, the Zephyr also had cars from the Desert Wind and Pioneer trains. Since this train had fewer cars, it must have been an off day for the Pioneer (it ran tri-weekly in its last few years).

Since I now live near Ottumwa and have had the privilege to videotape Amtrak here countless times since 2002, this footage is very priceless today! Old F40's and a "Pepsi Can" Dash 8, mail cars, and Phase III and IV Superliners can all be seen in this video. Plus, the train was much longer than it is today. Back then the Zephyr still had cars from the Desert Wind and Pioneer trains, and the train was so long that they actually did two stops at Ottumwa! Wow!
