Geoarcheology Workshop With Dr. Gregory Vogel

The CAA is pleased to offer two weekend hands-on geoarcheology workshops as a part of our summer calendar in 2008. Dr. Gregory Vogel, a Postdoctoral Research Associate at ArizonaStateUniversity and Research Director at the Center, will lead these courses. Each workshop is an intensive, 2-day program appropriate for undergraduates, graduate students, and professional archeologists seeking to further their understanding of geoarcheology. Instruction will include informal lectures and hands-on experience describing, sampling, and interpreting soils and sediments in the field and in the laboratory. Special attention will be given to using soil and sediment data to better interpret the archeological record. Dr. Vogel, who obtained his Ph.D. from the University of Arkansas, is the author of “A Handbook of Soil Description for Archeologists.”

The Program: Tuition is $200 for the weekend, and includes room, basic field lunch (sandwiches, chips, etc.) each day, and instruction. Breakfast & dinner are on your own. Participants will stay at one of the CAA’s bunkhouse-style dormitories; rooms are at minimum double-occupancy. Participants traveling from long distances are welcome to arrive Friday evening – dorm space is available for you at no extra cost.

SPECIAL! Participants who enroll in the CAA’s AdultFieldSchool may enroll in the August workshop for $175.00.

Who May Enroll: Adults 18+; undergraduates, grad students, professionals.

Enrollment Process: Complete the Registration Form and return it to the CAA Office along with your 30% deposit or full payment. Upon receipt of a completed Registration Form, we will send you a confirmation letter and a packet of additional information. A course syllabus will be provided upon your arrival. Please note that your remaining tuition balance is due one week before the program begins.

Registration for the program closes one week prior to the start of the session. Enroll early – this program is limited to 12 participants.
