The City of Olney was founded in 1841, and is the seat of Richland County in Southern Illinois. Olney offers a fine school system with an elementary school, junior high school, high school, several church-run schools and a junior college. There is an all-weather airport, approximately ten miles west of Olney. Olney has several service clubs, civic organizations and fraternal organizations. There are more than twenty-five churches serving the families of the area.There are many events and points of interest in Olney and the surrounding area. Some of these include the Heritage House, Richland County Historical Museum, the annual Olney Arts Council Fall Festival, the Olney Christmas light display and others too numerous to list here.
