This year marks the 17th anniversary for the Wheaton Junior Woman’s Club Rising Star Buddy Baseball Camp. The camp is a 5-week baseball camp for physically and mentally handicapped children. In the past, we have had 70 players and 80 buddies out in the baseball fields. Our program is unique because we team up players with able-bodied “buddies” to help them learn baseball skills. Our camp is held every Tuesday evening July 8th-August 5th at BriarPatchPark in Wheaton. The last game is the players versus parent’s night.
Registrations are being accepted for “buddies” the backbone of our program, without them our program would not be the success that it is. Minimum age to volunteer is 13 years old, several of our buddies have been a buddy to players for the last 10-15 years.
Registration is also being accepted for players, minimum age to participate is 5 years old. There is a registration fee of $10.00 which includes a team hat, team t-shirt and picture.
If you would like to get involved with this great program by being a player, buddy or as a sponsor, you can visit www.wheatonjrs.com or contact Judy Casaccio at 630-871-0953.
