Broad Ripple Art and Design
About Us:
Broad Ripple Art and Design was conceived on a cold winter night in January 2006. Doug had just completed a long weekend at the Indianapolis Home Show, stirring up interest in his work with mortars, Teri by his side for most of it. Winding down with a warm fire and an even warmer shot of tequila, they sat and pondered the meaning of life and the even more difficult question of 'How to be an Artist and Make a Living.'
The conversation ran late into the night, culminating with the twinkle of an idea that, appropriately, nine months later would become Broad Ripple Art & Design
Over the next nine months, Doug and Teri searched the city for the right place. They started in Franklin, came up to Fountain Square, and struggled with several real estate deals falling by the way side. Finally, the little tan bungalow on the corner of 54th and Winthrop Avenue appeared and they knew BRAD had a home.
During the search for real estate, they further developed their philosophy around working artisans. Knowing community is important, Doug and Teri made the decision to include within their gallery those artisans who carried the same commitment to quality, design, and living a creative life that they do.
In September 2006, the doors to BRAD opened. Aside from the gallery space, Doug and Teri house their studios inside and live here as well.
