The Hockley Railway Viaduct is a disused railway viaduct to the south of Winchester in Hampshire, England.The viaduct, originally called the Twyford Viaduct, was built in the 1880s by the London and South Western Railway (LSWR). It provided a link over the River Itchen and water meadows, from the Didcot, Newbury and Southampton Railway (DNSR), to the LSWR's main line. The viaduct was last used by the railway in the 1960s. It "fell" under the Beeching Axe, it still may still be walked over..

Leaf-Cutter Ants in the Tropical World at Marwell Wildlife Park, near Winchester in Hampshire, UK. Extract from www.marwell.org.uk : "Although they 'cut' huge amounts of vegetation, Leaf-cutter ants do not actually eat leaves - they cannot digest the leaf material. Instead they use the leaves to create and cultivate a fungus garden. The fungus breaks down plant material, absorbing the nutrients, and the ants eat the fungus. Although an ant colony consumes a lot of plant material (equivalent to an adult cow!) they rarely kill whole trees. Instead they regularly change the plant they are cutting from. This helps to ensure they have a constant supply of food around the nest, and may help to protect the colony from naturally occurring insecticides found in the leaves of many tropical plants." www.YouTube.com
