New England Eco-Safe Asphalt Targets Toxic Road Industry in Boston

category:Business and Professional posted:September 2nd, 2009

Just one year from inception, the sustainable, recyclable and non-toxic Greenpatch™ has captured widespread acceptance on governmental and industrial fronts in the greater New York area while fulfilling major orders from Connecticut, New Jersey and Massachusetts utility and road contractors.

As a New England based market, Boston has always been a primary nest for GreenPatch because of their affiliation with the U.S. Green Building Council.  The USGBC's remarkable record turnout in last year's GREEN BUILD EXPO reflected Boston as a major northeast supporter of Green "geo-engineering", modern clean-tech development and sustainable solutions.

Today, the health-conscious asphalt alternative is capturing ever-growing markets in the entire east coast and the Midwestern states.

“The asphalt industry has been under pressure to reduce diesel and petroleum derivatives used in its road repair products- that which has been extremely harmful to human health and marine life,” states Glenn Shapiro, VP of Product Development of Cold Mix Manufacturing. “We have accepted this challenge by spending 16 months in state-of- the- art laboratories and 10 months of field testing… to come up with the first bio-degradable, recyclable, renewable and organic asphalt road repair solution.”

In New York City alone, conventional cold asphalt pours over 240,000 gallons of diesel oil into the ground per year - containing many of the lethal carcinogens such as Benzene, Toluene and Kerosene that contaminate the soil and groundwater. Traditional cold asphalt also has an extremely high Volatile Organic Compound levels (VOC’s) which results in these toxins being released into the atmosphere. These deadly compounds are now recognized by scientists to be a leading contributor to pancreatic cancer, renal failure and respiratory & neurodegenerative diseases. Both of these issues are addressed by GreenPatch™ by replacing the toxic additives with biodegradable, plant based solvents.

In 2008, New York pathologist investigator Dr. James Cervino, PhD. applauds GreenPatch for its use of non-hazardous plant oils and the absence of VOC’s (Volatile Organic Compounds) in its ingredients. He also commends and supports Dario Amicucci and Glenn Shapiro, the producers of this “ingenious product” for their ethical and conscientious business model.

Government agencies such as NYS Department of Environmental Protection recognize the induction of GreenPatch™ into the road construction industry- paving the way for other health-conscious materials and applications. The National Green Energy Council has also provided its first and full endorsement of GreenPatch™ for its success in revolutionizing the road repair market for generations to come.
