Our History
The Evangelical Congregational Church (ECC) of Grafton has deep roots in the community, tracing its lineage to the first church in town. In 1731, after purchasing land from the Hassanamisco people, a small group of proprietors established a church, a necessary step in chartering a town in the Puritan colony of Massachusetts.

Dedicated in 1833, the current building reflects the strong theology of its origin - with three granite steps symbolizing the Trinitarian consciousness and four columns in the form of bundled reeds representing strength in unity.

Over the years, additions and renovations have helped our church stand strong, ensuring that it will continue to be a part of the Grafton community for generations to come.

The Church Today

ECC is one of the 430 Congregational churches in Massachusetts that belong to the United Church of Christ (UCC). The UCC is a non-hierarchical, progressive denomination committed to the unity of the Church. With a rich history tying faith to social justice, the UCC continues to challenge its members to explore cutting edge theology and service to the world.
